Mackinaw City, Michigan

I can honestly say now that the benefits of being a professional writer far outweigh the costs. One being that I could live anywhere and still have the same income. If I could live anywhere I would have to pick Mackinaw City, MI. My parents have a summer place up there on the lake. I spend the majority of my summers there but would love to live there permanently. The sunsets are awesome. It’s an extremely positive environment. I know I could’ve already found a way to move up there but I want to wait until my kids are a little bit older. My wife wants to move up there even more than I do. So do my parents. It’s a wonderful place. Whenever we go up, I don’t want to come home. Life is too short to only experience a place like that every so often, so I’m going to move up there as soon as I can.

Having spent 30 years on Wawatam Beach I'll agree with you about the summers. However, I never wanted to spend any time in Mackinaw City during the winter. If I could have flown into Pellston, rented a car and driven around town for an hour at the height of the snow season that would have been plenty for me. I was a Memorial Day to 2 weeks after Labor Day type. I spent many summers at the Beach from
1953 through 1983. I was even President of the Beach Association for awhile. I also wrote a History of the Beach Devlopment started by Vine Harding. If any of your folks lived there during that period, I might have known them. I have Yooper relatives from the Soo who recently spent a weekend in a primitive cabin at Wilderness Park where they had to ski in for about 2 miles. That's not my idea of fun. Brrr. That's a nice sunset picture you have. There's not enough foreground to give me an idea of where it was taken.
